Simpleware Version 7.0 Now Available

January 6, 2015

Simpleware is delighted to announce the release of version 7.0 of its industry-leading 3D image processing, analysis and model generation software suite. The latest release includes new features such as a particles analyser, a centrelines editor, animation tools, and new modules for calculating effective material properties using homogenisation techniques. Version 7.0 significantly extends the software’s capabilities for bridging scan data with CAD, CAE and 3D printing.
New and improved features of version 7.0 include:
•    NEW ANIMATIONS TOOL -> create videos of your work:
New tools allow animations to be generated from within the ScanIP interface. Explore your data and create videos to communicate your work to colleagues. Produce compelling animations from your 3D image data, with options available for pre-defined and custom settings, ‘fly’ throughs and high-quality file export.
•    NEW PHYSICS MODULES -> calculate effective material properties:
Version 7.0 introduces three additional, fully integrated software modules for calculating effective material properties from image data. Quick semi-analytical estimates or simulations in a built-in FE solver can be used to compute properties for samples (CT, micro-CT, FIB-SEM, MRI…). Modules include:
+SOLID – calculate elastostatic properties
+FLOW – calculate absolute permeability
+ LAPLACE – calculate effective electrical conductivity/permittivity, thermal conductivity, molecular diffusivity
•    NEW CENTRELINES EDITOR -> better understand the structure of your data:
Analyse the connectivity of your data using a powerful new centerlines feature. Use advanced algorithms to carry out centreline measurements in 3D, and export detailed statistics for analysis. Obtain shortest/longest lengths, take quick measurements, plot shortest routes and generate centreline statistics.
•    NEW WATERSHED SEGMENTATION -> easily segment and analyse particles:
This segmentation feature allows particles to be separated and grouped. Ideal for processing nano and micro-scale data, the watershed feature complements standard thresholding techniques that separate regions of interest but typically group together objects with similar geometrical characteristics.
•    Other new features include: Boundary layer meshing for FE models; new ABAQUS CFD export option; orientation overlays for medical applications; ROI-defined boundary straightening; mesh snapshots; improved transparency visualisation; improved slice planes; ROI creation from a mask’s shape
Dr. Viet Bui Xuan, Simpleware’s Chief Technology Officer, commented on 7.0: “We are extremely proud of this new release. Everyone worked hard and we really tried to address our users’ needs both in terms of usability and functionality. It includes a number of significant changes that will benefit all our users, from improvements to meshing performance to new modules for materials analysis. There are also improvements that will greatly automate the segmentation of some datasets that previously looked intractable or required a lot of user interaction.”
About Simpleware
Simpleware develops industry-leading software solutions for the conversion of 3D images (as obtained from MRI, CT, micro-CT…) into high-quality Computer-aided Engineering (CAE), Computer-aided Design (CAD) and 3D printing models. Simpleware software is being used by engineers and researchers in a variety of fields, including: Life Sciences, Materials Science, Oil and Gas Exploration, Industrial Non-Destructive Evaluation and Reverse Engineering. Simpleware software is based on proprietary technology that facilitates the integration of image data with CAD and computational analysis (Finite Element and Computational Fluid Dynamics) workflows. Unlike other approaches, Simpleware provides the most comprehensive software solution for bridging 3D image data and commercial CAE solvers, CAD packages, and 3D printing.
