National centre and network in Medical Devices launches

January 15, 2014
MeDe Innovation, the EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Medical Devices, was officially launched on Friday 10th January.
The launch event was attended by over 200 delegates from across the medical devices sector – including many representatives from industry, clinical, design & manufacturing, and regulatory and standards backgrounds.
The new national centre will transform the way replacement joints and other medical implants are made, focusing on the development of advanced methods of functionally stratified design and near-patient manufacture.
Along with presentations on industry challenges from the Centre’s collaborators, delegates were given the opportunity to question panels of representatives in the sector; make contacts and learn more about the Centre’s partners in the exhibition area; and to make suggestions and give feedback on how the Centre can support the network of associate members.
“The event gave us the opportunity to show how our software solutions can be applied in the medical devices sector – different patients aren’t the same, and we’re looking forward to working with the other partners and MeDe Innovation to produce more robust design and manufacturing processes to accommodate variations in patients, populations and surgery” said Dr Rebecca Bryan of Simpleware Ltd.
MeDe Innovation partners and delegates expressed their appreciation with the day’s programme:
“I thought there was superb mix of delegates and it was a very interesting and useful session” Giles Proffitt, Head of Business Development, Surgical Innovations Limited
“I’m glad I came. It all went very well and will have a great future” Mr Meredith Lloyd-Evans, Managing Director, BioBridge Ltd
“The event was a first class platform, which I think has created a strong sense in the community of what promises to be an excellent Centre” Prof Phil Coates, University of Bradford
