Leeds Innovation in Surgical Technologies event: Advanced Manufacturing

Leeds Innovation in Surgical Technologies event: Advanced Manufacturing

Date: December 14, 2016

Location: University of Leeds

The Leeds Innovation in Surgical Technologies (LIST) Network has been formed as part of the University’s Health theme to bring together researchers and technologists from across engineering and physical sciences disciplines in academia and industry together with clinicians, applied health scientists and others with interests in surgical technology innovation development, evaluation and adoption in order to develop, apply and trial new technologies to solve clinical challenges.
This networking event is focused on new methods for manufacturing and applications in Healthcare and Medicine. Professor Russell Harris from the Future Manufacturing Processes research group, University of Leeds will describe his research in new manufacturing methods, and particularly that related to medicine and healthcare. He particularly explores how ‘manufacturing enables new things to happen’. The drivers behind this are twofold; how novel manufacturing processes can provide new products, commodities and services and also how novel manufacturing can be an enabling technology to wider fields of science and technology.  He will be joined by Dr. Jason Watson, a consultant maxillofacial prosthetist from Nottingham who has utilised 3D printing technologies in his clinical practice.
There will also be more information provided about future network activities and how you can get involved, and an update on other initiatives underway at Leeds.
