Professor John Fisher

Professor John Fisher, Director of the Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Medical Devices, University of Leeds
Professor Fisher is a world leading academic in the field of medical engineering, who has more than 35 year’s experience of multi-disciplinary research to support innovative design and manufacturing in medical devices. He is Director of a range of major programmes with medical device innovation at their core, including MeDe Innovation, the EPSRC Medical Technology Innovation Centre, EPSRC CDT in Regenerative Devices and the Wellcome Trust EPSRC Centre of Excellence in Medical Engineering. Professor Fisher also has considerable commercial experience, acting as a consultant to medical device companies for over thirty years and having led the creation of four spin-out companies. The most recent of these is AIM listed Tissue Regenix PLC. Professor Fisher also recently gained the honours of Commander of the Order of the British Empire CBE; and The Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education. He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering FREng, the Academy Medical Sciences FMedSci, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers FIMechE and the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine FIPEM.
