Phosphate-based glass and fibre production
Capability Description
UoN has extensive experience of manufacturing resorbable glass and glass-fibres within the Centre for Innovative Structural Fibre Manufacture (CISFM). There are facilities for glass production, melt—drawn fibres and pre-form fibre manufacturing. At Nottingham we also have we also glass fibre mechanical testing facilities including a high temperature glass viscometer. The viscometer enables the testing and feasibility of drawing fibres from new formulations
Case Study
This research through TSB funding has enabled this capability and expertise to be extended to industry via fabrication of scale-up manufacturing facilities at GTS (Glass Technical Services, Sheffield).
