Bioactive material development

Capability Description

Expertise and laboratory scale facilities for polymer and ceramic synthesis, and for the assessment of their mechanical and biological properties using in vitro assays and a wide range of physical property tests (DMA, DSC, XRD, XPS, SEM, TEM, TOF-SIMS).
Spray dry and extrusion facilities for the preparation of nanocomposites.
A range of material, protein and cell printing facilities which can produce microarrays for high throughput screening of materials.

Case Study

Recently developed within an EC FP7 project a novel PLGA material with specific functional terminal end-groups and a series of new silicate, phosphate and borate based bioactive glasses.
