Reaching-out into year two

Reaching-out into year two

September 30, 2014

It’s been a bumper month for the Centre’s Outreach and Engagement activities in September:

We’ve published our first annual review: a 36-page report on the Centre and its achievements during its first year of operation (Read it by downloading the PDF or request a printed copy).
We launched our Fresh Ideas Fund: small grants to grow our national research platform in innovative Class III, musculoskeletal medical device manufacturing (See more at: https://mede-innovation.ac.uk//innovation-challenges-and-research/fresh-ideas-fund )
We held our first research-focussed workshop: on Biological and Biomimetic Materials for Medical Devices and Health Technologies. The event was attended by over 70 representatives from industry, universities and hospitals (See more at: https://mede-innovation.ac.uk//blog-post/biomimetics-inform-manufacture-medical-devices .

We made contacts and promoted the Centre, our upcoming events and the Fresh Ideas Fund at several national events:

EPSRC Manufacturing the Future Conference, Glasgow. The only national manufacturing research conference focussing on the leading edge (TRLs 1-4).  Here we met Sir Mark Walport, the UK Government Chief Scientific Adviser after he delivered a presentation on the Future of Manufacturing.

Regener8 Annual Conference, University of Leeds. The event was attended by over 160 representatives from academia, industry and clinic across the regenerative medicine sector.
Medical Engineering Centres Annual Meeting and Bioengineering14, , Imperial College London. The UK’s largest ever gathering of biomedical engineers, with participants from leading academic centres and the MedTech industry.
Bath Biomechanics Symposium, University of Bath. a one-day meeting hosted by The Centre for Orthopaedic Biomechanics at the University of Bath. The program included opportunities to view the latest work being undertaken at the research centre and highlight current hot topics in orthopaedics.
