Bionow is urging companies and individuals across the North of England to nominate their outstanding achievements for the prestigious 2014 Biomedical Awards, hosted by Bionow.
The Awards, now in their second year, will take place on Thursday 24 April, at the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, on Gateshead Quays. The event will celebrate the strength and depth of the cluster and the diversity of the companies within the biomedical sector.
Categories for the awards include:

  • export,
  • outstanding growth,
  • innovation and technology,
  • partnership with the public sector,
  • collaboration with a business, and
  • promising technologist, which goes to an exceptional individual who works for a biomedical company or research institutions.

The North of England is one of the UK’s and Europe’s largest biomedical regions; 20% of the UK’s biomedical companies, employment and turnover are in the North. Comprising of 925 life science and healthcare companies, it generates a turnover of £10.9bn and employs over 38,000 people. The area is home to the N8 Research Partnership, and boasts world-leading resources in terms of investment, scientific expertise, academic research, science graduates, NHS hospitals and state of the art manufacturing facilities.
Geoff Davison, CEO of Bionow said,
“The awards were launched last year and gave a real insight into the array of innovative and forward thinking biomedical companies which are based in the North of England.
“Over the past 12 months there have been some fantastic developments from companies within the sector and our awards offer a great opportunity to recognise these achievements. We look forward to receiving some excellent nominations from across the region and making the awards a highlight of the biomedical calendar.”
Closing date for entries is 14 March 2014, with the shortlist of finalists due to be announced on 1 April 2014.
