Annual Conference Report – Advancing Orthopaedic Medical Device Manufacturing

February 2, 2015

Over 150 delegates from across the medical device manufacturing sector stepped away from their daily duties last Wednesday to come together to learn of latest developments in the changing landscape of design and manufacture for orthopaedic devices at the MeDe Innovation Annual Conference.
The packed agenda included speakers from across the sector as well as presentations from the Centre’s Co-investigators, all giving viewpoints on the opportunities and challenges for innovation in orthopaedic medical device manufacture.

Featured speakers included John Wilkinson from the MHRA giving regulatory perspectives on personalised and combination approaches for medical devices; Finn Donaldson from the FDA on changes to the pre-market approvals process to access opportunities in the USA; and Ben Gooding with his perspectives on the dislocation between finance and medical innovation that impact on the delivery of healthcare in the UK.
The speakers really made an impact with the audience of academics, clinicians, industrialists and regulators – with 97% rating them as ‘excellent’ or ‘good’.

Presentations were balanced with a long break for lunch and networking.  Twelve organisations hosted exhibition stands to talk to delegates about opportunities that may be of interest, whilst our Early Career Researcher Forum discussed plans for 2015.
